Introduction

Speach by G. Surico (Italian)

  • Welcoming the IURO family
  • Florence Univ is one of the best for Science and Technology and Research
  • One has to understand the food for the planet should be seen as wealth of the planet in terms of plants and biodiversity
  • Welome all to the beautiful city with exciting discussions.

Speech by Loreto (English)

  • Importance of conference
  • About CNR EXPO (with 200 scientists all over the world

Chanco | Chairman of Italian Academy of Sciences (Italian)

  • Talks on Biology, its diversification | Central dogma of Research in Biology
  • Need for heterogenicity | the complexity of biology

Speech by Scaramuzzi - Director of Biology (Italian)

  • Orgin of Academy of science in Italy (206 years back)
  • Importance of Agriculture and need for feeding the planet
  • I was a tree grower and I am proud of it.
  • Hope on Molecular biology

Veronesi (Chariman of Agricultural society )

  • Declares that he is the specialists of tree genetics
  • Knowledge should be published
  • Have a positive attitude

Paoletti - Forest Ecology (Presentation)

  • Works on all aspect of Agroforestry | support conferences | Host journals ROREST (IF: 1.15)
  • Italy is 6th is Europe on forest coverage
  • 54% is coppicers (choosing trees in forest)
  • 66% is from Private owners

Chostri

  • Welcome and explained about the several congress of Forestry in florence
  • Farming and Forestry, climate change studies will bring great impact to the planet

Yousry A El-Kassaby

  • Origin of IUFRO
    • Next will be in Germany

Sally Aitken - Millions of markers, but what is the message ?

  • Sub Title: Population genomics of adaptation to climate in conifers
  • Theme: Adaptree
  • Climate change create mis-match between populations. Eg: pine and spurce
    • Aim: to detect the patterns of local adaptation from genomic data
    • Trees do the local adaptation through small effects of many loci
    • These were done through GWAS | Taking neutral population
    • Transcriptome -> aligned with whole genome sequence
    • In addition did some exon - capture (20 million SNPs in pine and spurce together)
    • Choose 1 million SNPs per species based on several filters
    • Categorized SNPs based GEA (Genotype-environment association)
    • Strong differentiation of North vs South (obviously)
    • Took the outliers (SNPs) out and correlated them : Strong positive correlation between pine and spurce (again obvious)
    • Looked at LD
      • LD in GWAS: Did with the sub-population and observed the longer LD block, (which is again obvious)
      • LD is skewed if the population is not adjusted (Again obvious fact idiot)
    • 6 common genes as outliers (basically major effect genes) in pine and spruce
    • Irrelevant last slide
    • Full summary is all about obvious facts
  • How would you use the genomic data on local adaptation: will use the specific population which is more amenable to adaption to be used in conservation. (??!) . OK Nice. How many of the population is really marked for conservation???
    • These guys really make fun with the Govt Funds.
  • Good question
    • Time is also factor while dissecting the envt..! correct
    • Minor effect is also a big factor in decision making
