Nagabhushana was given the target of cellulose synthesis gene family isolation. He critically selected 6 major genes, of which 2 have been isolated, in addition to 4 promoters. There was a mid-term correction after serious discussion with collaborators, to withdraw CesA gene family gene isolation to avoid future redundancy. Bhushana was given other responsibilities that include wet-validation of Ortho-SSRs; and pilot experiment on GD of new clones, which he completed in time with success.

Ashok has consistently shown good work flow in gene isolation and Casuarina project. He has successfully isolated 10 cell wall bio synthesis gene in E. camaldulensis in both direct and heterologous approaches. He was also reviewed the genes through expression analysis for its suitability. In addition, Ashok undertook a minor project to identify sex-specific marker in Casuarina, wherein he is presently characterizing two of the sex-specific marker identified.
