Background and Discussion on MAP Intercropping System
Dear Mr. Suresh,
As per our discussion, I am sending you the background information as a pre-read for our upcoming discussion.
In 2020, in response to the business request for enhancing the productivity and penetration of Casuarina clone ITC1761, we initiated experiments with various intercropping systems using medicinal plants due to their higher profitability. By 2022, we demonstrated the success of intercropping Black Cumin and Ashwagandha, resulting in increased farmer incomes of ₹30,000 and ₹45,000 per acre per season, without compromising the Casuarina yield. The report was submitted to PSPD, and Mr. Vadiraj suggested that farmers engage with various companies for marketing these products.
Later, in 2024, MAEB began developing the budding business and approached PSPD for assistance with MAP, while PSPD focused on intercropping systems to benefit their farmers as well. Based on previous experiences, Mr. Suneel (along with Mr. Ragavendra) requested our support in establishing MAP on 5 acres in BCM/Rudrapur as an intercropping system, with PSPD covering the expenses (as per the email below). We have since mapped the potential crops and weather conditions and shared the experimental plan. This will be a collaborative activity rather than an independent project for now.
