Highlights 2009-10
- Sucessful isolation/validation of 25 growth related and 15 pulp yiled related genes for biomass/pulp yiled enhancement
- Successful development of 200 Ortho SSR markers to facilitate E. camaldulensis breeding programs
- Mating pattern established towards modelling Eucalyptus seed orchards
- "Dristi Bioservice" A new platform for in-house database and analysis tool
- Marker identified for sex determination in Casuarina for informed breeding of Casuariana Hybrids
- Curated Tobacco EST assemblage to facillitate development of microarray
Appraisal 2009-10
- Prasad
- Prasad Hendre has successfully completed the committed work on gene isolation despite of practical difficulties, particularly in cloning. He was also instrumental in trouble shooting team members' problems. He was highly focused in his deliverable. Hendre is critical in discussions and assess the risk factors well in advance. Some of the minor gaps in which he has to work on are
- Looking the problem in a wholistic way and out of the box thinking
- Revamp his breeding expertise to appropriately fit in MolbBio experiments.
- Informal discussion with silvi team with more fine tuned communication skills to more understand the specific issues of individual projects
- The above gaps, when taken care, he would turn to be an excellent scientist for the center.
- Action Points for future
- Develop fine tuned communication skills (learn the principle of "give it to get it"; understand the emotional impact)
- Develop know-how in Tree biology and population dynamics
- Work for a common cause.
- Learn to educate the opponent without them realising
- Action Points for future
- Bhushan
- Nagabhushana was given the target of cellulose synthesis gene family isolation. He critically selected 6 major genes, of which 2 have been isolated, in addition to 4 promoters. There was a mid-term correction after serious discussion with collaborators, to withdraw CesA gene family gene isolation to avoid future redundancy. Bhushana was given other responsibilities that include wet-validation of Ortho-SSRs; and pilot experiment on GD of new clones, which he completed in time with success.
- Nagabhushana proved to be a good team worker in work flow and discussions. He is well aware of center's over all objectives as evident from many of this discussions and attitude. Few additional gaps, in which he has to show his potential are,
- Active involvement and enthusiasm to escape from being trapped by comfort zone.
- Every day micro-level planning is solicited and self - review the same.
- Situational leadership is solicited ignoring the hierarchy.
- The above gaps, when taken care, he would turn to be an excellent resource for the center.
- Action Points for future
- Activeness and get-out of comfort zone
- Learn to switch between work entities quickly
- Micro-level planning and self-review with respect to time line
- Action Points for future
- Ashok
- Ashok has consistently shown good work flow in gene isolation and Casuarina project. He has successfully isolated 10 cell wall bio synthesis gene in E. camaldulensis in both direct and heterologous approaches. He was also reviewed the genes through expression analysis for its suitability. In addition, Ashok undertook a minor project to identify sex-specific marker in Casuarina, wherein he is presently characterizing two of the sex-specific marker identified.
- Ashok is highly task focused and a good team worker. Couple of areas in which he has to work are,
- Intensive discussion within and outside the domain.
- Needs thorough understanding of overview of the project
- Needs more interaction in the common forum (seminars and meetings)
- The above gaps, when taken care, he would turn to be an excellent resource for the center.
- Action points for future
- Interaction in common forum (the process us educated)
- Logical reasoning - solicited
- Seek for theoretical know-how (reading) and apply
- Come out of hierarchy; Needs Authenticated discussion
- Action points for future
- Raj
